Join us on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 8 to 9 pm ET!
This online event for kids aged 8–12 and their families will focus on Sylvia & Aki , an inspiring book based on a true story. The program will include special appearances by civil-rights activist and title character Sylvia Mendez, and acclaimed author Winifred Conkling.
Registration is free and open now!
During the pajama party and in the weeks leading up to it, we will focus on themes of fairness, friendship, civil rights, and persisting through adversity. Participants will read the book Sylvia & Aki in advance.
We will provide a series of optional at-home activities for families. These will include writing, art, historical documents, and visual sources so that you can choose which activities work best for your child(ren). While the suggested age range for the pajama party is 8-12, younger siblings are invited to participate and activities will support multi-age learning. Children will be invited to create and share their art and writing activities in advance of the program!
During the pajama party on September 25th, Sylvia Mendez and Winifred Conkling will participate live, reading from the book and answering questions.
